Despard Gallery

The Despard Gallery was established in Despard Street, Hobart in July 1987. Twenty years on the gallery has consistently blended established and emerging artists working in various mediums including painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media.

Since 1993 we have participated in seventeen expositions throughout the USA, including SOFA Chicago, New York and Miami. As a result, Despard Gallery has won Tasmanian art exporter of the year on three separate occasions.

This has been and continues to be in conjunction with promoting our artists through solo and group exhibitions, both locally and nationally. .

Despard Gallery has participated in the prestigious Melbourne Art Fair over sixteen years, with July 30 to August 3 in 2008, being our eighth event.

Director of Despard Gallery, Steven Joyce has maintained an ongoing interest in fine twentieth Century decorative arts whilst maintaining an active interest in not only selling but collecting emerging artists work. To view upcoming events please view our exhibition schedule.

Despard Gallery maintains a strong and eclectic collection of decorative art and objects ranging from 1930's bakelite jewelry and deco furnishings to the finest in contemporary Italian studio glass from Venini, Davie Penso and Andrea Morucchio.

Services provided by Despard Gallery include:

    - Valuations for insurance
    - Valuing donations for public institutions for the cultural gifts
       bequest program.
    - Advice on forming and maintaining a collection for both
      private and corporate needs.
    - Discretionary act as agent to acquire works for private and
      public collections.
