Usmiani's practice involves the use of ordinary, every-day objects in a
way that one expects to be reserved for precious materials. Discarded
beer cans and soft drink bottles, collected from household recycle
bins, are transformed through highly meticulous and detailed processes,
to become objects of beauty.
"The Little Things" offers the viewer a selection of works reminiscent
of fine textile crafts, Middle Eastern tiling and decorative metalwork
- a blending of unexpected materials with a traditional approach to
craft practices.
We are reminded that to overlook the unimportant things in life is to
risk missing an opportunity to be delighted.
