OF LOST THINGS
His parents liked to spread out the maps and plan the family holidays, but every year they inevitably returned to that same spot on the coast. He remembers being distraught, that first time there, when he lost a favourite toy in the dunes. His mum comforted him by saying it was like leaving a special piece of evidence and one day it would be found and that person would have proof that someone before them had walked that path and felt that same sun on their skin. After that, at the end of each summer, he would take a small thing and cover it over with sand. Many years later he brought his own family to that place on the coast and would sometimes walk alone, eyes down cast, in an annual search for those missing orphaned objects.
