Despard Gallery is pleased to share some special Summer Show additions, with a suite of fourteen original handmade Amphora’s by contemporary ceramic artist Rosanagh May in collaboration with Hillary Schofield (Liminus).
Each Amphora shaped pendant is an extension of the recent scent bottles series created by May which is each host to a uniquely curated scent. Each Amphora is designed and decorated in line with the piece If We Were Vampires, which is host to the scent Eager described by Schofield as ‘Storied materials cast a dusty veil, desire and romance, a wearable memento mori.’
The scent composition created by Schofield aims to complement the narrative of May’s ceramics, becoming a conversation of the seen and the unseen and a connection between the form and emotion of May’s work, including the song that has inspired it, written by Noah Kahan.
Each work is packaged in a special box, with numbered certificate and the accompanying scent of Eager in two small atomises. The scent is developed from rose absolute, Labdanum, Frankincense and Vanillin combine.
‘In this work, the lyrics become a way of honouring the tension between restraint and longing. They point to gestures that haven’t fully arrived yet, gestures that echo in the imagination first. It’s that suspended, electric moment—eager, tender, and full of possibility—that I wanted to hold still. I’m drawn to those emotions, where desire sharpens the senses and eagerness becomes its own kind of intimacy.’
