Despard Gallery is please to share that Tasmanian artist Anne Morrison is currently presenting their work as part of the exhibition Big Small Words hosted by Hive, the major cultural centre at Ulverstone.
Curated by Belinda Cotton, the exhibition features artists Helene Boyer, Christie Lange, Sarah Lloyd, Nataša Milenović, Anne Morrison and Emily-Rose Wills.
Each artist explores the remarkable life forms and ecosystems of Tasmania, from its deep waters and ancient forests to the microscopic worlds beneath our feet. Present as part of National Science Week, Big Small Worlds explores the hidden, intricate worlds of organisms and processes that often go unnoticed.
Through their work Morrison shares her endless fascination with the complex infrastructure of all living systems, including the biospheres that exist within both microscopic ecosystems and celestial macrocosms. These organic remnants, including the delicate textures of undergrowth, lichens and mosses to tiny seeds, spores and diatoms, are reimagined through paint. Responding intuitively, Morrison allows the natural fluidity of paint to capture a sense of flux, each surface becoming akin to an evolving ecosystem.
Big Small Worlds is showing in the Art Gallery at Hive from 1 August – 18 October 2026.
