Despard Gallery would like to congratulate Tasmanian artist Harrison Bowe, who has recently had a major profile featured in ARTIST PROFILE magazine. Arts writer Lucy Hawthorne delves deep into Harrison’s practice, looking at the trajectory of his work over the last few years since leaving art school, including his love of bushwalking in the remote Tasmanian wilderness, as well as seeking out the perfect surfing spot. Hawthorne also discusses Harrison’s most recent work created as part of solo exhibition Of Peaks And Tides at Despard Gallery. The article is published in issue 73.

“Early in the work’s development, the artist realised there were stylistic similarities in the way he painted waves and background mountains smooth and indistinct-adding new meaning to the exhibition title, Peaks and Tides. He paints the sea as if slightly out of focus, emulating the way a human eye sees moving white water, rather than the way a photograph might capture the fine details of a cresting wave.”
