Despard Gallery is proud to present the latest video in our Artist Interview Series, featuring established contemporary ceramic artist Jenny Orchard. Listen to Jenny Orchard discuss the concepts that underpin her unique practice and the intricate processes behind the evolution of each sculpture.
Jenny Orchard was born in Turkey, grew up in Zimbabwe and now lives in Sydney. Her distinctive ceramic works are simultaneously strange, familiar, organic and peculiar, morphing eccentric figures with vegetative elements. Each sculpture and work on paper featured in Orchard’s solo exhibition Bush Of Ghosts respond to native Australian fauna and flora, combined with decorative traditions and postmodernism. Her beautiful and vibrant mutations lament the loss of species and biological changes caused through environmental disruption.
