Over the past two decades Peter Prasil has created a unique body of sculptural art forms, incorporating 18c techniques with 21st c technology. Prasil has a unique skill set and philosophical approach to his art, trained in Copenhagen as a tool maker and engineer, Prasil continued his profession after arriving in Australia in 1973.
He became interested in woodwork, initially studying at tafe in Victoria, after visiting Tasmania he enrolled at UTAS, majoring in wood design. He had no intention if studying beyond a major, the university offered him a research scholarship in fine art and furniture design, which he accepted and gained his PHD.
Peter has long been fascinated by machine art, the smoke machine from his PhD submission is straight out of a Flash Gordon comic or Metropolis.
Peter has been exhibited internationally. Some of his pieces are also part of the MONA collection.
