Fiona Omeenyo

Fiona Omeenyo is a visual artist born in the remote community of Lockhart River on the Eastern Cape York Peninsula. Omeenyo appeared on the contemporary art scene in the late 1990’s and was a founding member of the original Lockhart River ‘Art Gang’. Her work expands across the realms of sculpture, printmaking, public art and painting. Omeenyo’s figurative compositions symbolise bloodline, which connects ancestral spirits with family and her homeland amidst coastal beach and reefs.  Her practice reflects on ancestry, Country, connectivity and a continuous relationship with past and present. The symbols and figures used within her work are described by Omeenyo as a personal interpretation of togetherness, specifically her family and spirit.
