Despard Gallery is proud to share emerging artist Jonny Scholes is the lead artist in a special collaborative project with Feras Shaheen to be held at Campbeltown Art Centre.
Presented in association with the 25th Biennale of Sydney, Blocked Duwar is a special performance-based work created by Feras Shaheen in collaboration with Jonny Scholes, blending video game technology, sound, user interface and experience design.
Set within an imagined Palestine – pieced together from fragmented memories, family records and digital remnants, Blocked Duwar shared Shaheen’s experience of maintaining Palestinian identity within diaspora.
Composed of dance set against a shifting virtual world, the performance explores Shaheen’s struggle for self-determination, including the simultaneous frustration and resilience of forced separation from your Indigenous homeland.
In Blocked Duwar, Schoels plays the role of “streamer,” guiding the audience through the shifting virtual world. His expertise in 3D design, interactive storytelling, and audience-responsive technologies is central to the development of the performance’s digital spine.
