Despard Gallery is very proud to announce that Tasmanian artist Harrison Bowe has been announced as the winner of the Tattersall’s Landscape Art Prize 2026.
Dedicated to promoting contemporary landscape within creative practice the Tattersall’s Landscape Art Prize has become one of Australia’s notable art awards, with a first prize of $30,000.
Presented in partnership with Lethbridge Gallery, the annual prize brings together finalists nationally and aims to showcase contemporary works that challenge traditional notions of landscape. Bowe was announced as the winner of the acquisitive prize at a gala event on Wednesday (3 June), joining an illustrious group of previous winners, including Euan Macleod, Sam Leach, Fiona Lowry and Margaret Olley.
Bowe’s painting Humbled By Insignificance (oil & beeswax on linen, 122 x 198 cm) captures the grandeur of the mountainous terrain that defines the rugged southwest of Tasmania. Applied with various palette knives, thick gestures of oil paint trace the contours of the landscape and its rocky topographies, bathed in immersive tones of light.
The chief judge of this year’s prize is Brett Lethbridge, owner and Director of Lethbridge Gallery. Shortlist judges include Christine Clark, Director, Curatorial and Collections at Museum of Brisbane, Lisa Bale, 2008 Tattersall’s Landscape Art Prize Winner and Ian Walker, former Tattersall’s Club Committee Member.
