Micheila Petersfield has won the 2019 Henry Jones Art Prize, picked from over sixty finalists, with her work The Gesture.
The Henry Jones Art Prize art prize has been established to support emerging early career artists, helping to grow the art community in Tasmania.
As winner of the acquisitive prize, Micheila receives $20,000.
“Simply stated, highly accomplished and extremely powerful …….. At first glance the image is reminiscent of a fashion shoot – extremely polished and exuding sensuality and beauty, however after spending time with this artwork the underlying distortions start to allude to darker qualities and suggest an ambiguity of intent, sexuality and emotion.”
The exhibition will be open to the public from Thursday 28th November until Sunday 8th December in the Henry Jones Packing Room and Atrium from 9am – 5pm.
Micheila will be exhibiting new work in our annual summer exhibition opening Wednesday 18 December.
