Deborah Klein lives and works in Ballarat, Victoria. Deborah gained a degree from Chisholm Institute of Technology, Melbourne and Gippsland School of Advanced Education, completing a Masters in Research MA from Monash University, Gippsland. She has exhibited regularly since 1987, in both solo and group exhibitions, across Australia and internationally. Deborah’s work is held in numerous public and university collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, the Queensland Art Gallery and the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery.
Within this suite of works Deborah hides the face of her subjects, their identity just eluding the viewer. Drawn in bright reds and bold blacks, each work incorporates an elaborate, and even slightly menacing comb. The hair is perfectly styled, yet appears to be on the verge of unraveling at a moments notice.
