Despard Gallery is very proud to announce that early career artists George Kennedy and Harrison Bowe has both been selected as finalists in this year’s Hadley’s Art Prize. This is Kennedy’s first time being selected as a finalist and Bowe’s fourth, being selected in 2022, 2024 and 2025. Bowe was also announced as the winner of the people choice award in 2025. Kennedy and Bowe are two of only five Tasmanian artists that have been selected for the prize this year, being an important recognition to their unique contributions to the genre of contemporary landscape painting.
The Hadley’s Art Prize Hobart is one of the richest landscape art prizes in Australia, with an acquisitive prize of $100,000. The annual prize is awarded to a contemporary artist for the best portrayal of the Australian landscape. The prize is sponsored by the owner of Hadley’s Orient Hotel, Don Neil who dreamt up the idea of the prize on the 90th anniversary of the first art exhibition held at Hadley’s Orient Hotel. The Hadley’s Art Prize brings art back to the historic walls of Hadley’s Orient Hotel and celebrates the work of contemporary Australian landscape artists.
The winner will be announced at the opening of the exhibition finalists’ works hosted by the Hadley’s Orient Hotel, Hobart, on Friday 31 July. Finalists’ exhibition runs from 1 – 23 August 2026.
