The Weather At Midnight

EXPANDED PAINTING IN COLLABORATION  6 – 28 June 2025

Despard Gallery is pleased to share a new off-site exhibition The Weather At Midnight featuring Maggie Jeffries in collaboration with Alex Moss at the Moonah Arts Centre (MAC).

In this experimental collaborative project, Maggie Jeffries and Alex Moss explore the idea of expanded painting, using interactive audio-visual installation in conjunction with painting to augment sensory experience. This includes developing digital projections and sound installations that are layered over paintings, bringing them to life. 

Underpinning the exhibition are the rich and detailed botanical paintings by Maggie Jeffries.  Her practice investigates how the edges of environments intersect with memory and how plants become both a tether to the remembered gardens and bushland of her childhood, as well as provide a connection to new sites of growth and discovery.

Jeffries and Moss will also be developing a collaborative painting with the public throughout the exhibition, based on weather readings, interactive movement sensors and additional projected light.
