Inaugural Solo Exhibition

Despard Gallery is very proud to present the inaugural solo exhibition All The Pearls by emerging Tasmanian artist Maggie Jeffries.

Inspired by the gardens and bushland in which she spent time as a child, Jeffries explores the emotive language of plants through painted botanical arrays. Jeffries recognises the important connection between plants and nostalgia, reinterpreting sites of personal significance by collaging multiple images to create compositions that depict memories and her enduring fascination with botanical subjects. Through this process she communicates her connection to significant sites from her past and how they translate to her current experience in the natural world today.

Despard Gallery is excited to launch our new series of gallery videos for 2022 with an artist interview featuring emerging Tasmanian artist, Maggie Jeffries. Listen to Jeffries reflect on the series of paintings that made up the exhibition, as she explains the background to her personal fascination with botanicals. Jeffries also discusses how her compositions originate from multiple images depicting locations of personal significance from her childhood, collaged together to evoke the complexity of memory.
