Despard Gallery is please to share that Melbourne based artist Micheila Petersfield is currently part of a curated exhibition at the Justine Art House Museum (JAM). PHOTOGRAPHY: Seeing is Believing showcases over fifty photo-based works from the private collection of Leah and Charles Justin, exploring the many ways artists use the photographic process in contemporary practice. This includes photography as an expanded field of self-expression, with artists pushing the boundaries of how the photographic image is both created and manipulated.
Since photography’s invention in the mid-19th century, photographers have shaped how we see the world through their own subjective choices. While traditional photographers document the world, this exhibition reveals how artists use photography to creatively question and challenge it.
Micheila Petersfield work Painted Landscape (2022) is being presented as part of the exhibition alongside fellow Despard Gallery artist Paul Snell. Petersfield will also be part of a special artist talk and discussion, alongside artist Shannon McGrath, to be hosted at JAM on Tuesday 15 September 2026. Petersfield will be talking about the distinctive approach to their work and the ideas that underpin them.
You can read more about the exhibition, book a tour, as well as book a place for the artist talk here.
Micheila Petersfield will be exhibiting new work at Despard Gallery in a special joint exhibition with Philip Jmae Mylecharane opening on 21 October.
PHOTOGRAPHY: Seeing is Believing runs from Sunday 30 August through until Sunday 25 October 2026.
