Peter Stephenson has been painting in Tasmania for almost forty years and is recognised as one our finest figurative artists. Stephenson often takes on familiar themes, using his signature powerful style to convey charged views on war, politics and football. Stephenson is held in numerous significant collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, Artbank, Brewster Art Gallery, New Zealand, Harvard University, USA and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. Stephenson is the first artist collected by Australian War Memorial who served in the Vietnam War.
All six works come from a private collection in Melbourne and were originally exhibited as part of a solo exhibition by Stephenson titled ‘Foreign Fields’, hosted by Gallery Irascible, Melbourne. Paintings were also exhibited at Despard Gallery, December 2015. Stephenson is currently represented by Best Gallery, Hobart.
