Roger Webb

Roger Webb was born in Oxford and lived in England, Ethiopia and Egypt before coming to Australia in 1961. After obtaining a Diploma of Art from the Tasmanian School of Art, Hobart, in 1968, he worked as an art teacher until 1980, then took up potting full time, selling his work at the markets in Salamanca Place and through Despard Gallery. On five occasions he was been represented by Despard at the prestigious international SOFA exhibition in Chicago. He makes superb cabinet vases, covered jars and demitasse using fine porcelain, combining resist techniques and lustre glazes Webb produce delicately multi-layered surfaces. Roger’s care, precision, and technical subtlety are combined with the mentality of a true craftsman; not selling works that do not meet his high standards. He signs his pieces with a simple incised ‘W’.
