Sebastian Galloway is an artist currently based in nipaluna/Hobart. Trickery Of Dim Eyes is a major early work by Galloway and represents one of his first pieces being acquired though a gallery. The bold use of colour and intricate detail has become a defining part of Galloway’s practice, his early works often depicting surreal narratives that reveal a strange imbalance between the animal and human worlds. With conflicting multiple perspectives and a dark under-tone, this significant diptych becomes a creative critique on how photography and digital manipulation mediates contemporary imagery and the ability of paint to capture depth and wonder.
Galloway graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 2013, exhibiting both nationally and internationally since. Galloway, has been selected as a finalist in numerous art prizes, including the National Still Life Award in 2021, The Lester Prize and The Kilgour Prize in 2019. Notable he won the Glover prize in 2021, as well as winning the Toni Fini Foundation Prize in 2020 and the Guy Warren Emerging Art Prize in 2022.
