Announcement from Despard Gallery

COVID-19 Update

Dear Friend of Despard Gallery,

As concerns continues to grow around COVID-19, including its inevitable impact on the arts sector, Despard Gallery would like to take this opportunity to advise our friends and clients about our opening times and upcoming events.

As a private organisation we actively support local and emerging artists by engaging the community through our exhibition program, at this stage we will continue to maintain our regular opening hours with preventative measures in place.

We would like our visitors to feel comfortable and confident within our gallery space, knowing that we are providing a safe and hygienic environment.  With the decision to remain open, we will be activity minimising any risk by taking necessary precautions wherever possible. This includes thorough and regular sanitisation of our surfaces, including handrails and doors. We will also be providing handwash and hand sanitiser for all visitors.

To ensure the safety of our artists, staff and visitors we are closely following WHO and the Tasmanian Government in regard to the development of the situation, as well as taking on any new advice as it comes to hand.  As the situation continues to develop, we will be making decisions regarding planned opening events on a day-to-day basis.  For updates, please stay tuned to our website and social media platforms.

In the meantime, our exhibitions will continue as planned. We are implementing further digital strategies to continue to share with you the work of our talented artists. This will include more digital content, such as exhibition walkthroughs and artists in conversation via our gallery video channel. Digital catalogues, social media posts and our web site will enable you to enjoy the artworks from your home.  We invite you to make an after-hours appointment for a private viewing of current exhibitions and our extensive stockroom.

Despite these challenging circumstances, Despard Gallery strongly believe in the importance of our artists work and look forward to your ongoing support of our vital industry.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the gallery.

Regards,

Steven Joyce
