Despard Gallery is thrilled to present the latest video in our Artist Interview Series featuring contemporary Tasmanian artist Anne Morrison. Listen to Morrison discuss the influences and processes behind her practice and a fascination with the macroscopic and microscopic elements that make up our fragile ecosystems. Morrison also reflects on how the fluidity and alchemy of paint echo’s processes found of nature, intuitively building up compositions to form complex networks of abstracted forms.
Morrison regularly walks the cost around Forth on the North-West Coast of Tasmania, drawing inspiration from rich diversity of the environment. This includes fragments of undergrowth, the delicate textures of lichens and mosses, and the seeds and spores carried by wind and water currents. Back in the studio, Morrison visually re-imagines these forms through paint, echoing the patterns and rhythms in nature and reflecting the rich tapestry that is life and our personal connections with the natural world.
