Despard Gallery would like to congratulate Katie Barron, who has been awarded the first prize in the painting category for this year’s Henry Jones Art Prize.
The Henry Jones Art Prize is Tasmania’s leading emerging art prize, with two acquisitive prizes of $20,000 in categories of painting and mixed media. The annual prize is awarded to an emerging contemporary Tasmanian artist who shows exceptional talent in any medium. The prize aims to showcase the diversity of amazing work being created by Tasmania’s finest rising contemporary artists. This year’s prize was judged by Australian artist Katy Woodroffe, two-time Glover Prize winner David Keeling, and Curator of the Glover Art Prize Megan Dick.
Katie was announced as the winner of the painting category at the gala event last Wednesday 22 November, taking home $20,000.00 for her work hyper-realistic painting Flossed Innocence. Katie was part of a very impressive list of finalists, including fellow Despard artists George Kennedy, Zoe Grey, Joshua Andree and Liam Ross-Baker.
Despard is excited to be showcasing new works by Katie as part of our Annual Summer Show on view 13 December 2023, acting as an official welcome into the stable.
