LORRAINE BIGGS Buffeted 2021 charcoal on paper

Congratulations to Lorraine Biggs who has been announced a finalist in this years Rick Amor Drawing Award.

The 2021 Rick Amor Drawing Award will be hosted for the first time at McClelland Gallery, Victoria. The acquisitive prize showcases the medium of drawing to promote the practice of drawing among Australia’s professional artists, thanks to the generous support of Rick Amor with the winner taking away $20,000. The medium of drawing embraces a wide range of different approaches both in terms of subject matter and in terms of mode of execution.

“Trees are often a focus of my work. This new drawing concentrates on the wind or pressure bending the tree as a metaphor for current times. To be resilient and adaptable too adversity in life is like the way a tree that can bend is better able to withstand harsh weather and not break. With this last year, I like many others, have felt the tension. I have tried to convey this simply through recent nature based drawings”

Finalist exhibition and winner announced Sunday 5 September 2021.
