Little Gallery Emerging Artist Program

George Kennedy will be presenting a new body of work at the Devonport Regional Gallery as part their Little Gallery Emerging Artist Program for Tasmanian artists. Over the last few years George has spent time exploring Tasmania, getting a feeling for places, communities and their unique landscapes. These paintings respond to these travels, focusing on sites of curated beauty, specifically the landscape surrounding Devonport and then contextualising them within a queer framework. He creates from a lived transgender experience, challenging Eurocentric aesthetics and ideals of hierarchy and colonialism.
George will be presenting more work alongside fellow emerging artist Harrison Bowe as part of our Young Bloods Exhibition series at Despard Gallery, opening 22 June 2022.
