Josh Foley

New Percepts - Solo exhibition

5 February – 29 February 2020

Opening Wednesday 5 February at 5.30pm

Despard is excited to launch our exhibition program for 2020 with a solo exhibition by Josh Foley.  This will be Foley’s second exhibition with Despard Gallery.

“Produced over the past three years, New Percepts is a body of experimental paintings by Tasmanian artist Josh Foley.  Through paint, Foley’s work questions the materiality behind the painted image. Works deliberately vary in scale, approach and subject matter to explore how painting can connect physical and spiritual situations derived from tangible encounters.  For example, works have been inspired from experiences derived from art residencies at Cradle Mountain, Woolmers Estate, Bundanon Estate and Launceston Church Grammar School.

Foley graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor of Contemporary Art (Hons) from the University of Tasmania, going on to exhibit throughout Australia. Foley has been the recipient of numerous grants and residencies, as well as a finalist in art awards nationally, winning The Glover Prize in 2011.  His work is held in private collections throughout Australia, as well as in the Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery and University of Tasmania.”
