Milan Milojevic – Night & Day

Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery

Despard Gallery is proud to share Milan Milojevic recent inclusion the major exhibition Twist, currently on ta the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.

Curated by Dr Mary Knights the major exhibition brings together artworks by Australian and Irish artists to engage with themes covered Charles Dickens’ famous book, but with a contemporary and quirky twist. Twist continues Dickens exploration of important issues around crime and punishment, the dire impact of poverty on women and children and the grim conditions in public institutions such as orphanages, prisons and workhouses, as well as immigration to Australia.

Milojevic presents a major work, consisting of thirty two individual prints titled Night & Day (The Tree), archival inkjet prints on photographic rag archival paper with etching plate overlay.

A leader in contemporary digital printmaking, Milojevic’s practice delves into imaginary hybrid worlds, drawing from the traditions of nineteenth century European wood block designs, reconstructed with digital technologies and then overlaid with inkjet prints. Drawing on both his Yugoslavian heritage and Tasmanian upbringing, Milojevic’s practice describes phantasmic forests populated with doctored fauna, flora and mythical creatures.
