“I have had a long held fascination with colonialism and both the ideology and inevitability of imperialism. My primary interest lies in our proximity to history itself and the possibility/actuality of its recurrence. By identifying common motifs it is possible to show that the rituals and narratives of the past and present are generally congruent. Is repetition what makes culture? By depicting well known folklores from both past and present they become unified. By creating multilayered works I hope to isolate signs, symbols and characters in an attempt to show their sameness“. – Sam Field
